I don't know if or when I will ever see her again, but I miss you -- Kelsey. I hope you are alive and well.

It was dark. I didn’t really know where I was, but I was me. You know the dream state you go into during a dream, its you but it isn’t really you? It was the real me this time, like Alice, I had fallen in some sort of hole in the ground that took me to her, and many others just like us.
It was like another world down there, only not as creepy as the world Alice fell into. She saw me immediately and she pulled me over towards her. She began giving me instructions on how to keep Them from noticing. She spoke quickly and quietly to me, as if our friendship had never ended, like it had never changed.
Was this why she had left without answering her phone? Had she literally crawled into a hole? She was my best friend and our friendship had disappeared some time ago with no explanation, no reason or closure; just gone. Now, all of a sudden, she is there and she is helping me through this maze like underground world full of strange things that I can’t describe.
We had to blend in. I could see all of these bright colors, but she said They couldn’t see color at all. She said They were some sort of insect that went by motion and could only see black and white. Some how they had been collecting us through holes in the ground and they had a huge population of people working for them.
She had been trying, like the others, to escape back up to the top world. She and the others had a plan. They knew that it would cause some fatalities but they couldn’t live like this any longer and had to do something before anymore people came down to the trap where they had been living.
I hadn’t seen Them yet. I knew They were watching, there were cameras every where. If I could just stay by her, she would lead me and be my guide. My heart was racing and all I could think about was that I had her back, we were friends again.
We went with a friend of hers back to her home, if that is what you would call it. She had things from the top... things like pictures and maps, but they were different somehow and I couldn’t figure it out. I listened really carefully as she laid out their plan to get out. We had to go to the market for supplies and that meant we had to be extra careful because They would be there and if we were seen with certain things it would cause suspicion among Them.
It was as though They didn’t even notice me. They had had so many new ones come in recently that they couldn’t tell that I hadn’t been marked as the rest of them had been. I had only been lucky that I fell in while she was there to find me.
We began our ascension to the top. I was scared. I could hear her saying, "Hurry, you have to get out first..." I began to see the light at the top and I could feel the others behind me, trying their hardest to get me up there and trying to follow behind without being noticed. The light was close; I could already smell the fresh air. I was so excited that I would finally have my best friend back... we would be as close as ever... I turned back to grab her hand and she and the others were gone. It was as if they had never been there. The hole was gone.
I sat on the grass, confused, shaken, scared. How do I get her back? Where does the hole open next? They had to have been so close. They were right there! My hands were filthy, sweat was dripping and my clothes were torn and tattered.
Moments later I opened my eyes feeling confused, lost and sad because I thought I had her back. I was sweaty. I opened my eyes, only to look at the ceiling of my room. I crawled out of bed and into the warm shower to contemplate if I would ever get her back or if she would stay in a hole forever.
